2011, in a nutshell

I created a Facebook page for LJH Photo + Design. I've been working on posting some of the interesting photos I've taken over the past year there. Go check it out!

2011 has been a busy year for me. I work as a part time Creative Developer for Humana. I'm in charge of updating Humana's internal company wide news website, Humana Today. I format photos and content for posts on there, so I spend a lot of time working with Photoshop as a part of that job. I'm part of the Corporate Communications department, and I photograph events for Humana, take head shots of folks that work there, and various other sundry creative tasks.

I worked with another one of my clients, Universal Woods, this year helping them take photos for a new version of their product catalog. We built a small studio set up with strobes and soft boxes, which allowed us more creative freedom with the shots. Their creative department is still working on the catalog layout, so I hope to post some shots of the finished product here when it is complete.

I got to work with the Kentucky Derby Photo Archives team shooting the Kentucky Derby this May, which is always one of my favorite things to shoot.

In October, I taught a photo workshop for kids at the Main branch of the Louisville Free Public Library, which was a lot of fun. We provided the kids with digital cameras and they photographed architectural details and the grounds of the branch. The creative department at LFPL printed out some of the kids' best shots and put them on display in an exhibit in the Teen Underground.

I put together a team of some of my photographer friends, and we participated in Connect at Bernheim Forest, and I took photos at Bernheim's Colorfest event this year. Bernheim Forest is one of my favorite places to take pictures.

Lastly, my husband and I visited the Grand Canyon in October, and I took tons of photos there. If you like nature photography and have never been there, I highly recommend it.

2011 has been an exciting year for me, and here's hoping for more good stuff in 2012!

Oh, neglected blog

It is with much chagrin that I see that the date on my last post here was almost a year ago! For shame!

Rest assured, I am still in business and I have been shooting and working constantly since that last post. Burger's Market is still my client, as is Sweet Surrender Dessert Cafe. I've picked up a few other interesting gigs in the past year, and a lot more work with my two main contract jobs. One of those contract jobs became a more secure part time job last month, and my other contract job is at a company that is growing their product lines, so it's been an interesting time to be there as well. There's been plenty of work for me both places and I am so thankful for that!

My increased workload has necessitated my cutting back on teaching, so I am not offering private lessons at the moment, and I am only teaching Nature Photography for JCPS Adult Education now.

I hope to get to updating my portfolio on here soon. Unfortunately, a lot of the best shots I've gotten in the past few months are of families and their children, and I don't post many photos of children on my site unless I get special permission. I'm pretty sure a photo I took is going to be in the local paper this week, so if it shows up, I'll have to link to it here.

Meanwhile, stay tuned.

A few of my favorite things from Burger's Market

Meet my new client, Burger's Market. I am in the process of building their web site. I also helped them get a Facebook page going. They already have lots of friends. I've shopped at Burger's for years, so I was so happy when they asked me to make them a web site. Burger's is a family owned market, and they carry all sorts of unique things.

I took a bunch of photographs at Burger's this morning to use for their web site, plus many extra shots just because it's a lot of fun to take photos at a grocery. This blog entry is a showcase of some of my favorite things that Burger's has, and that usually end up in my cart when I shop there.

They have a selection of fancy mushrooms that you can buy by the handful. Mmm. Good in pasta and stir-fry.

I adore this spaghetti sauce. My husband likes it too, so I stock up when I see it.

Burger's carries lots of great coffees, some from local coffee shops too. This one is a special blend made for them by Java Brewing. I haven't tried it, so next time I need coffee, I'll have to get some of this.

I love hot tea, and I prefer the fancier types. I like to have a whole cabinet full of different kinds. Burger's is one of the places where I like to get my tea.

I don't eat much mustard, but my husband likes it on his sandwiches. I could not resist when I saw Mr. Mustard sitting on the shelf. So cute!

Kenny's Farmhouse Cheese is made in Kentucky and it can be found in several local shops, including Burger's. I LOVE Kenny's Cheese. It is my favorite!

New Lunch menu at Sweet Surrender

Did you know that Sweet Surrender serves more than just dessert? They offer an all vegetarian lunch from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. They've just revised their lunch menu, and I photographed and ate some of the tasty new options yesterday.

Spinach Potato Frittata

This was one of our favorites. Yum!

Peanut Butter Sandwich

Choice varies weekly. This one has cinnamon peanut butter, cream cheese and pears.

Open-Faced Eggplant Parmesan Panini

This was also extra tasty.
